How does virtual net metering work?

Virtual net metering by households and small/medium enterprises allows us to produce our own clean energy for self-consumption from RES, even if the RES installation is far from the point of consumption.

The energy produced by the RES system  offsets the consumption in our electricity bill.

The information provided is an approximation:

    • The number of photovoltaic units may vary depending on the construction, the size of the installation and the type of equipment.
    • Solar output varies according to location, but you can use this tool to estimate sunshine hours in your location.
    • Equipment costs may vary depending on the installation size, the equipment supplier, the installation costs and price fluctuations throughout the year.

Scenario of participation in an energy community

    underline

The owners and/or tenants of the apartments of an apartment building create an energy community in order to install and operate a photovoltaic unit on another plot within the district of the apartment building, using virtual net metering.
The energy produced by the photovoltaic unit offsets the consumption, and the amount is deducted from the energy bills.

E.g.: If the total annual energy needs are about 75,000 kWh, then:

    • Estimated required pv system power: 50 kW
    • Estimated budget: €50.000
    • Estimated total annual savings on consumers’ energy bills: €12.750
    • Estimated investment’s break even point: 4 years
